New Delhi: In a freak accident, on the National Highway stretch in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur, 11 people were killed and 12 injured as a truck rammed into a bus going from Rajasthan’s Pushkar to Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh.
The bus driver and some passengers were standing behind the bus because it broke down on a bridge. It was then that the speeding truck rammed into the vehicle. The bus had halted at Antra flyover in the Lakhanpur area after running out of fuel when the truck rammed into it from behind. Five men and six women died on the spot, police said, NDTV reported.
“The bus was standing on the highway. Some passengers were in the bus while some were standing outside when the collision took place,” Mridul Kachawa, Superintendent of Police (SP), Bharatpur was quoted as saying.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the accident.
Expressing grief at the loss of lives and offering condolences to the victims’ families, Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of the dead and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
