NewDelhi: President of the Republic of Indonesia joined India’s Republic Day celebrations this year as the chief guest of honour. A dinner honouring the chief guest accompanied the immense event when hosts, including President Droupadi Murmu, welcomed President Prabowo Subianto. During a lively speech, President Subianto revealed his unexpected Indian heritage based on recent DNA test results.
Genetic sequencing and DNA testing conducted a few weeks back revealed a surprising discovery: my ancestry is Indian, according to my DNA results. It’s a revelation that even I found intriguing. People recognise my instinct to dance whenever Indian music reaches my ears. “My DNA must have Indian origins since I get up to dance whenever I hear Indian music,” he said, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and other guests responded with laughter.
President Subianto appeared as the chief guest at India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations in Delhi, where he emphasised the deep and shared cultural and historical connections between the two countries. “Sanskrit serves as a fundamental source of many linguistic components for us.” Indonesian names are heavily drawn from the Sanskrit language. The influence of ancient Indian civilisation is evident throughout our modern existence, creating a strong bond between our nations.
President Subianto expressed his deep respect for Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, which he finds truly inspiring. Despite his lack of professional political experience and diplomatic skills, he is eager to learn and contribute. His visit to India has broadened his understanding, particularly through witnessing Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and commitments.
President Subianto praised Prime Minister Modi’s work to eliminate poverty and help marginalised groups, saying such dedication inspires us throughout Indian society. The Indian nation deserves future years filled with prosperity, stability, and grand achievements. I wish the diplomatic relationship between India and Indonesia keeps growing from current partnership levels into a lasting friendship.
As the morning unfolded, President Subianto, along with President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi, enjoyed the grandeur of the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path. The parade, a symbol of India’s rich cultural heritage and military prowess, was a fitting end to President Subianto’s visit, which was marked by warmth and camaraderie.
