Lucknow: In a major employment push, the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) has released the official notification for the recruitment of 12,405 primary teachers. The online application process for these highly anticipated positions commenced today, September 16, 2026. Interested and eligible candidates can submit their forms through the official commission website at upessc.up.gov.in.
The extensive recruitment drive, conducted under Advertisement Number 05/2026, aims to fill vacant teaching positions in non-government aided schools operating under the purview of the state’s Basic and Secondary Education Departments.
Vacancy Breakdown The recruitment encompasses two distinct categories of Assistant Teachers. Under the Basic Education Department, there are 11,508 vacancies for the post of Assistant Teacher (Urban). These are divided into 4,746 posts for the General category, 3,069 for OBC, 1,116 for EWS, 2,379 for SC, and 198 for ST candidates.
Additionally, the Secondary Education Department is hiring for 897 Assistant Teacher (Attached Primary) positions in non-government aided primary schools. The distribution includes 378 posts for the General category, 164 for OBC, 7 for EWS, and 348 for SC candidates.
Eligibility And Age Limit As per the official notification, applicants for the Assistant Teacher (Urban) role must possess a graduation degree from a recognised university along with a BTC, two-year BTC Urdu, Special BTC, D.El.Ed, four-year B.Ed, or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification. Furthermore, clearing the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is mandatory.
Similarly, candidates applying for the Assistant Teacher (Attached Primary) role must hold a graduation degree, an NCTE-recognised BTC or D.El.Ed, and must have passed the TET conducted by the Uttar Pradesh or Central government for Classes 1 to 5.
The age limit for the Urban Assistant Teacher post is set between 21 and 40 years as of July 1, 2026. However, standard age relaxations will be applicable as per prevailing government norms.
Important Dates And Fees The application window will remain open from September 16 to October 15, 2026. The deadline for depositing the application fee is also October 15, while candidates will have until October 19 to make any necessary corrections to their submitted forms.
The standard application fee is pegged at Rs 1,000 for General, OBC, and EWS candidates. Applicants from the SC and ST categories are required to pay Rs 500, whereas the fee for differently-abled (Divyang) candidates is Rs 300.
The UPESSC has strongly advised aspirants to complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) on the portal prior to applying and to carefully review all terms specified in the official notification to ensure a smooth application process.
