New Delhi: A total of 64,553 new cases registered overnight took India’s COVID-19 tally past 24.5 lakh-mark to stand at 24,61,190 on Friday.
Also, 1,007 more patients succumbed to the infection across the country in the last 24 hours. The fatality rate has dipped below 2 per cent and stands at 1.95 per cent with total 48,040 COVID-19 deaths.
India ranks fifth in deaths due to the deadly virus.
According to the Union Health Ministry, 71.17 per cent (17,51,555) people have recovered, including 55,573 patients in the last 24 hours, while 26.88 per cent (6,61,595) are still under treatment.
The number of sample testing labs has increased to 1433, including 493 private labs. There are 749 Real-time RT-PCR based testing labs, which includes 302 private labs.
According to ICMR, the total number of samples tested so far is 2,76,94,416 and it includes Thursday’s 8,48,728.
The Ministry also added that 34 states/UTs have exceeded the requirement of 140 tests per day per million population as suggested by the World Health Organisation.
