Bhubaneswar: Players of India and West Indies cricket teams were given a rousing welcome as they arrived in Odisha capital on Thursday afternoon for the last and final ODI scheduled to be played at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on December 22.
Meanwhile, the chefs of Mayfair Lagoon, where the players will be putting up, are readying a culinary experience for the players to savour during their stay here.
“We had received the dietary requirements of the teams about two to three months back. The menus for both the teams have been prepared accordingly and they also include a few other request items,” said Corporate Chef Nasir Ahmed.
He said that the Indian team will be served Odia, Indian and Chinese cuisines. “We will serve them Odia food first, and cuisines from across the world later,” he told a local news channel.
Nasir said that players are often inquisitive about food of the place they are visiting and demand for the same. “Even in 2011, we had served them Odia food for lunch and dinner on one particular day,” he said.
On Virat Kohli, he said that since the India captain had turned vegetarian recently, he can relish fried mushroom, saaga and dalma from the Odia kitchen.
Nasir said that Indian players prefer biriyani, kabab and tandoori items. “We have special Biryanis for them,” he said.
The breakfast buffet will have a variety of food from across the globe, including those from North and South India.
The menu for the West Indies team is very different. “Since it is Christmas time, we plan to serve them roasted turkey, lamb, plum puddings and cakes, steak, burgers and grilled items like fish,” he said, adding that they have a taste for non-vegetarian delicacies.
