New Delhi: A driving licence is more than just a permit to drive on Indian roads; it serves as a highly crucial identity document. However, many citizens face unnecessary legal and administrative hurdles simply because they have an outdated or inactive mobile number linked to their transport documents. Updating this registered number is absolutely vital to receive timely traffic challans, renewal reminders, and essential security alerts from the transport department.
In the past, changing registered personal details required multiple frustrating visits to the Regional Transport Office. People often provide temporary phone numbers in a hurry while applying for their initial documents. When those numbers are eventually deactivated or lost, accessing online transport services becomes a major challenge because digital portals heavily rely on verification messages. Recognizing this widespread public inconvenience, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has completely digitized the mobile number update process through its official Parivahan Sewa portal.
Citizens can now update their contact details from the comfort of their homes within just a few minutes. The online procedure begins by visiting the official Parivahan website and navigating directly to the driving licence related services section. Users must select their respective state of residence from the main menu to proceed to the state specific transport dashboard.
Once on the regional page, applicants need to click on the mobile number update option located in the service menu. The digital system will prompt them to enter their exact driving licence number, date of birth, and other basic identification details. For strict security and identity verification, the portal utilizes an Aadhaar based authentication system. After successfully verifying the primary Aadhaar details, users are permitted to enter their new active mobile number into the transport database.
A one time password is then instantly sent to the newly entered mobile number for final confirmation. Upon successful verification of this password, the new contact number is permanently linked to the driving licence. Transport officials highly advise all vehicle owners and drivers to ensure their current mobile numbers are actively linked. This simple online administrative step guarantees smooth access to future digital transport services and prevents individuals from missing crucial official communications.
