Moscow: Russia has strongly accused the United States of violating the recently signed peace memorandum with Iran following a series of renewed American military strikes in the Middle East. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that the escalating violence severely undermines ongoing international efforts to resolve the long standing nuclear dispute with Tehran.

Addressing a joint press conference alongside Chadian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Sabre Fadoul in Moscow on Tuesday, Lavrov expressed deep concern over the sudden resumption of hostilities. He directly referred to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed between Washington and Tehran last month. The crucial agreement, mediated by international partners, aimed to permanently end the military conflict that erupted in February and pave the way for peaceful nuclear negotiations. Lavrov expressed his disappointment, stating that the fresh military actions have effectively closed the diplomatic doors that the memorandum had initially opened.

Over the past few days, the United States and Iran have exchanged heavy military strikes while aggressively claiming operational control over the highly strategic Strait of Hormuz. This vital maritime route remains incredibly essential for global oil and gas shipping. The Russian Foreign Minister highlighted that the renewed violence is causing massive damage to civilian infrastructure in Iran and across neighboring Gulf countries, pushing the entire region toward a highly dangerous path. Lavrov firmly stated that the Russian government views the recent American actions as a direct and regrettable breach of the agreed peace mechanism.

During the extensive media briefing, the veteran Russian diplomat also criticized European nations for allegedly attempting to derail broader diplomatic understandings between Moscow and Washington regarding the ongoing Ukraine crisis. He pointed out that while United States President Donald Trump continues to view the recent Alaska summit agreements positively, European powers are continuously playing political games to prevent bilateral cooperation and maintain their regional dominance.

The latest Russian statements arrive at a highly critical time when global energy markets remain extremely volatile due to the ongoing military standoff in the Strait of Hormuz. With previous diplomatic agreements falling apart rapidly, the international community is now closely monitoring the situation to prevent a full scale regional war in the Middle East.
