New Delhi: In a major revelation highlighting the growing diplomatic influence of India, a senior Polish minister has claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi played a crucial role in preventing a nuclear escalation in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Wladyslaw Teofil Bartoszewski, who serves as the Secretary of State in the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the Indian leader successfully persuaded Russian President Vladimir Putin against deploying tactical nuclear weapons in late 2022.
The Polish minister made these significant remarks during his recent official visit to New Delhi. He emphasized that India occupies a highly unique position in global geopolitics due to its historically deep ties with Moscow. According to Bartoszewski, Prime Minister Modi is among a very select group of world leaders who can genuinely exert pressure on the Russian President. He noted that Putin actually pays close attention to the perspectives shared by the Indian leadership.
Praising the diplomatic heft of New Delhi, the minister pointed out that the long standing relationship between India and the Russian Federation gives the country immense credibility. When the threat of a tactical nuclear strike loomed heavily over Ukraine in 2022, the active intervention by the Indian Prime Minister was instrumental in easing the crisis. Bartoszewski firmly asserted that international appeals for peace carry much greater weight when they come from nations that Moscow does not perceive as hostile.
Addressing past diplomatic frictions, the Polish official also clarified that Warsaw and New Delhi have successfully resolved their previous differences regarding the purchase of discounted Russian crude oil. While Poland initially criticized India for buying cheap Russian oil, they now possess a better understanding of the economic realities driving those national decisions. He confirmed that this specific economic issue no longer remains a point of disagreement between the two friendly nations.
Global experts and political analysts have often highlighted the strategic importance of India in mediating a potential peace settlement. The latest statements from the Polish leadership further solidify the global perception that New Delhi could be a vital peacemaker. As the devastating conflict continues to affect global stability, the international community increasingly views the diplomatic channels maintained by India as essential tools for achieving a sustainable and permanent resolution.
