New Delhi: Amidst rising pollution and severe smog levels in the national capital, the Delhi government is gearing up to implement the “No PUC, No Fuel” policy starting November 1. Under this strict environmental directive, vehicle owners without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will be outright denied petrol or diesel at fuel stations across the city.
In addition to fuel denial, driving without a valid pollution certificate will continue to attract heavy traffic challans. Authorities have also indicated plans to restrict the entry of non-BS6 vehicles into Delhi to further curb toxic emissions. Given the stringent enforcement of these rules, daily commuters are strongly advised to verify their vehicular documents before heading out.
Fortunately, checking the validity of a PUC certificate does not require a visit to the Regional Transport Office (RTO). The government has made it easy for citizens to check their vehicle’s status through the official Parivahan portal or mobile application.
To check the validity online, vehicle owners can visit the official website (parivahan.gov.in). By navigating to the ‘Online Services’ section, users need to select the ‘PUCC’ option. The portal will prompt users to enter their vehicle’s registration number along with the last five digits of the chassis number. After entering the security captcha code, the complete PUC details—including the certificate number and expiry date—will be displayed on the screen.
Alternatively, citizens can use the ‘mParivahan’ mobile application available on Android and iOS. By logging into the app and navigating to the ‘Vehicle’ section, users can easily track their pollution certificate status.
According to transport regulations, brand-new vehicles are exempt from PUC testing for the first year following their registration. After this period, the certificate generally requires renewal every six months. Authorities have cautioned the public against entering personal vehicle details on unverified third-party applications to prevent data misuse. If a recently updated PUC record does not reflect immediately on the official portal, vehicle owners are advised to keep a physical copy of the certificate handy while traveling.
