Ludhiana: In a shocking case of domestic violence and dowry harassment, a man in Punjab’s Ludhiana district brutally assaulted his wife after his demands for a Mahindra Thar SUV and a sports bike were not met. The horrific incident, which took place in the Jassiyan Green Enclave, was caught on a nearby CCTV camera, showing the husband dragging his wife by the hair and repeatedly kicking her on the street.

The victim, identified as 28-year-old Twinkle, operates a salon at Samrala Chowk. According to the police complaint, Twinkle had met the accused, Ritish Sharma, who works in the medical field, during the hearings of her divorce from her first marriage. The couple became friends and eventually tied the knot in November 2025.

However, the marriage took a dark turn just three months later when Sharma began harassing her for dowry. According to the victim, her husband would frequently taunt her about her income. “Since you earn more than I do, why can’t you buy me a Thar?” he would allegedly demand. Although a previous dispute over this issue was temporarily resolved through mediators, Sharma soon started demanding an expensive sports motorcycle.

The situation escalated violently on the day of the incident when an argument over the bike broke out in their home. Trying to save herself, Twinkle fled towards her neighbor’s house. Sharma chased her onto the street and launched a vicious attack. The CCTV footage clearly shows the accused slapping the victim, throwing her to the ground by her hair, and kicking her mercilessly. Hearing her desperate screams, neighbors rushed out and intervened, rescuing her from the brutal assault.

Following the incident, the victim approached the Jagatpuri police post to file a written complaint and handed over the CCTV footage as evidence. Haibowal Police Station In-charge (SHO) Inspector Jasvir Singh confirmed that an investigation has been launched. Authorities are currently waiting for the medico-legal report, after which strict criminal charges will be registered against the accused.
