New Delhi: In a rapid and dramatic sequence of events, the Bar Council of India has revoked its controversial order that halted the professional enrollment of the 2026 batch of law graduates from Hyderabad based NALSAR University of Law. The apex legal regulatory body completely reversed its decision just three hours after issuing the initial directive. Following the withdrawal, the council clarified that no restrictive action would be taken against the law students until a formal internal inquiry report is received and thoroughly reviewed.
The initial suspension order was passed after reports emerged of a coordinated campaign run by NALSAR students against Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. The massive controversy broke out when the young law graduates openly threatened to boycott the upcoming university convocation ceremony if the Chief Justice was invited as a guest. According to the agitating students, their protest was a direct response to alleged derogatory remarks previously made by the Chief Justice concerning unemployed youth in the country.
However, the swift and harsh disciplinary measure from the Bar Council of India triggered an immediate wave of backlash across the legal fraternity. Several active Bar Council members publicly opposed the enrollment ban and termed the directive legally flawed and unfair to the graduating batch. The public pressure intensified significantly when the Cockroach Janta Party issued a stern warning of nationwide agitation if the council failed to retract the restrictive order. Forced by mounting criticism from within the legal community and political quarters, the regulatory body made a rapid policy reversal and cleared the path for the students to register as practicing advocates.
Addressing the serious nature of the situation, Bar Council Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra released a firm statement. He noted that the council has officially taken cognizance of publicly available information and various media reports regarding the highly organized campaign against the Chief Justice of India. To get to the bottom of the matter, the council has directed the university administration to strictly identify the core individuals responsible for initiating the campaign, mobilizing fellow students through social media networks, organizing strategic meetings, and giving the final call for the event boycott.
Taking a firm institutional stance, the Bar Council has officially instructed the Vice Chancellor of NALSAR University to conduct a preliminary investigation and submit a comprehensive factual report within a strict deadline of three days. Any future course of action regarding the professional conduct of these students will exclusively depend on the findings presented in this requested university report. Until then, the aspiring lawyers of the 2026 batch remain completely free to pursue their official advocate enrollments.
