Gorakhpur:Passengers planning rail travel through the North Eastern Railway zone in the coming days must check their ticket status immediately. The railway authorities have announced the cancellation and route diversion of several major trains from July 16 to July 24. This disruption is due to crucial track doubling work being undertaken between the Gorakhpur Cantt and Unaula railway stations under the Varanasi Division.
While the infrastructure upgrade promises long term benefits for the region, it will cause temporary inconvenience to daily commuters and long distance travelers. Railway officials confirmed that the temporary block is absolutely necessary to ensure safe and timely completion of the vital rail expansion project.
According to the official notification, numerous passenger and express trains have been fully cancelled on specific dates. The Gorakhpur Cantt to Narkatiaganj passenger train will not operate on July 19, 20, 21, and 24. Similarly, the Prayagraj Junction to Muzaffarpur Express remains cancelled on July 20. Other major cancellations include the Chhapra to Gorakhpur passenger train on July 20 and 21, and the Chhapra to Nautanwa Express on July 21. Several local trains connecting Nakaha Jungle, Barhni, and Narkatiaganj have also been suspended entirely during this operational block.
In addition to total cancellations, railway authorities have diverted the routes of multiple long distance express trains. Major trains running on alternative paths include the Lalitgram to New Delhi Express, the Purnea Court to Amritsar Express, and the Chhapra to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express, all diverted on July 21. Passengers traveling on the Guwahati to Jammu Tawi Express, Howrah to Kathgodam Express, and Dibrugarh to Chandigarh Express on July 20 will also experience major route changes. The Amritsar to Darbhanga Express and the Katihar to Amritsar Express are among other key trains facing diversions on selected dates.
The ongoing track doubling project is expected to significantly reduce rail traffic congestion and improve the punctuality of trains in the busy Gorakhpur sector once completed. However, to avoid immediate travel chaos, the railway administration has strongly advised all passengers to verify their current train status. Travelers are urged to check the official IRCTC website or the National Train Enquiry System portal before heading to the railway station during this period.
