Calling the late-night shooting a “calculated, cold-blooded murder,” Adhikari alleged that the assailants had been conducting reconnaissance for days before finally pulling the trigger.
Rath, who efficiently managed both the personal and political affairs of the BJP stalwart, was intercepted near Doharia in Madhyamgram. Armed assailants fired a volley of bullets directly into his chest and stomach, killing him instantly. For Adhikari, the loss is intensely personal; the duo shared an unwavering eight-year bond that dated back to their days in the Trinamool Congress.
Rushing to the local hospital late at night alongside Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, a visibly shaken Adhikari addressed the media. “We are absolutely grief-stricken and have lost our language to condemn this tragic incident. This was a pre-planned hit executed with chilling precision,” he stated.
