Panihati: The echoes of the electoral mandate are being drowned out by the deafening sound of explosions in North 24 Parganas. In a terrifying escalation of post-poll hostility, several BJP workers were left severely injured after a series of crude bombs were hurled at them in Panihati late Wednesday night.
The incident unfolded in the Ward No. 1 area, where a group of BJP supporters had gathered for a routine discussion. The relative calm of the neighborhood was shattered when unidentified miscreants allegedly targeted the gathering, raining down explosives with chilling precision. The suddenness of the attack left the victims with no time to scramble for safety.
According to local sources, multiple workers sustained grievous splinter injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. The condition of at least two workers is reported to be critical, adding to the palpable anxiety in the region.
The local BJP leadership has pointed the finger squarely at the Trinamool Congress, alleging that “TMC-backed goons” are orchestrating a systematic campaign of intimidation to break the morale of the opposition. “Our workers were merely sitting together when they were showered with bombs. This is the politics of revenge at its worst,” a local party representative remarked. While the TMC has dismissed these allegations, the ground reality remains volatile.
In the aftermath of the blasts, a heavy police contingent has been deployed to transform the area into a virtual fortress. While the smoke has cleared, a thick cloud of fear hangs over the residents of Panihati, as the state continues to struggle with a cycle of political violence that refuses to subside.
