New Delhi: In a timely telephonic conversation amid escalating tensions in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held detailed talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday.

Extending warm greetings for Eid and Nowruz, the Prime Minister underscored India’s commitment to regional stability and peace.

According to a readout from the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi, President Pezeshkian laid down a firm condition for ending the Middle East conflict: America and Israel must immediately cease their aggression and provide guarantees that such incidents will not recur. “Iran did not initiate this war,” he declared, asserting that unjustified strikes took place during ongoing nuclear talks. These attacks, he said, killed the Supreme Leader, senior military commanders, and numerous unarmed civilians, including 168 innocent schoolchildren in a school in Minab. Pezeshkian rejected US claims about Iran’s nuclear ambitions, citing the Supreme Leader’s longstanding opposition and accusing Israel of fuelling instability across Lebanon, Gaza, Iran, Iraq, Qatar, and beyond. He urged BRICS nations to play an independent role in halting aggression and safeguarding regional and global peace.

Prime Minister Modi strongly condemned attacks on critical energy infrastructure in the region. He emphasised the need to secure the Strait of Hormuz and ensure free navigation in the Persian Gulf. “The path of war is not in anyone’s interest,” he stated, calling upon all sides to take swift steps towards dialogue and lasting peace.

The exchange highlights India’s proactive diplomatic engagement at a critical juncture.
