Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has recommended the permanent blacklisting of director Aditya Dhar’s production house, B62 Studios, for repeated safety and permission violations during filming in South Mumbai.
According to reports, the controversy erupted from a shoot schedule between February 7 and 8 in the A Ward area, covering locations like Modi Street and Perin Nariman Street. Permissions were granted on January 30 through the Maharashtra Film, Stage, and Cultural Development Corporation, but BMC officials allege multiple breaches of norms, including filming on a building terrace without proper approval, operating two generator vans without requisite permission, unauthorised use of flammable materials such as lit torches or mashals (prompting police intervention), changing locations without intimation, and using gas cylinders for cooking on set.
An official from BMC’s A Ward wrote to the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Zone 1), seeking not only a permanent bar on B62 Studios from applying for future shooting permissions via the state portal but also a penalty of ₹1 lakh and forfeiture of the security deposit. Subsequent permission requests for February 13-14 shoots were rejected, citing these lapses.
A BMC source was quoted saying rules were “violated multiple times” during the production. While blacklisting has been recommended and some clearances granted to block future applications, no final blacklisting has been confirmed yet, and the matter awaits higher approval.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh and helmed by Aditya Dhar, follows the massive success of its predecessor, which reportedly grossed around ₹1300 crore. Slated for release on March 19, the film now faces uncertainty amid this civic crackdown, highlighting the strict enforcement of safety protocols in Mumbai’s bustling film industry.
