Rampur: In a startling case of identity fraud, a Pakistani citizen has been exposed for securing a government teaching post in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district using forged documents, leading to her dismissal and an FIR.

The woman, identified as Farzana B alias Mahira Akhtar, originally an Indian, married in Pakistan in 1979 and acquired citizenship there. Following marital discord, she returned to Rampur in 1985 with her two minor daughters, changed her name, and remarried a local resident, Siddique Hassan Khan. She obtained a long-term visa (LTV) from Indian authorities but concealed her foreign nationality.

As a Pakistani national on LTV, she was ineligible for government employment. Yet, by fabricating a residence certificate and misleading officials, she landed the role of assistant teacher at a primary school in Kumhria village, under Saidnagar block, affiliated with the Basic Education Council.

Residing in Rampur’s Mohalla Khandesar for over 34 years, her deception unravelled during a routine probe, revealing the fake credentials. Authorities promptly terminated her services, and police lodged an FIR under stringent sections.

The incident has triggered investigations by the district administration and education department into lapses during her appointment verification. Police officials confirmed ongoing enquiries, hinting at possible further arrests or actions based on emerging evidence.

This breach raises serious concerns over security protocols in public recruitment, highlighting vulnerabilities that allowed a foreign national to serve in a sensitive role for decades.
