Ranchi: In a major move to pacify the ongoing student unrest in the state, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has announced the cancellation of the fourteenth Jharkhand Public Service Commission or JPSC preliminary examination. Addressing the state assembly during the monsoon session, the Chief Minister also declared the cancellation of two pending backlog exams and ordered a thorough investigation into the examinations conducted by the TDPL agency.
The crucial announcement comes in the wake of massive statewide protests by students and job aspirants. For the past several days, thousands of candidates have been protesting on the streets, alleging widespread corruption, paper leaks, and massive irregularities in the recruitment exams conducted by the state commissions. The protesting youths had been demanding immediate cancellation of the exams, greater transparency in the recruitment process, and a high level probe into the alleged anomalies.
Taking to the social media platform X, Chief Minister Soren highlighted his new initiative named Students Voice With Students. Under this public campaign, over eight thousand and five hundred young candidates have already submitted their valuable suggestions to reform the examination system. The Chief Minister assured that the state government is deeply committed to building a highly transparent, fair, and secure examination process for current and future generations. The feedback covers critical areas such as OMR sheets, exam calendars, scorecards, and the better use of modern technology.
The assembly proceedings witnessed intense political drama and heated exchanges over the issue. Soren launched a sharp political attack on the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, accusing them of manipulating the students for their own political gains. The situation escalated dramatically when opposition legislator CP Singh waved a bundle of currency notes inside the house, alleging heavy bribery and cash exchanges in the state recruitment process.
This dramatic gesture by the opposition leader triggered massive uproar from the ruling party members. The intense political confrontation and continuous sloganeering eventually led the Speaker to adjourn the assembly proceedings indefinitely, a day before the scheduled conclusion of the session. While the latest government decisions aim to bring relief to the protesting students, the actual implementation of these promises will be closely watched by the public and the political opposition.
