Mumbai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly planning to stage the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 from February 7 to March 8.
It is anticipated that India and Sri Lanka will host the tournament, giving cricket fans worldwide something to cheer for.
The tournament will last a month and have 20 teams, using the same format as the 2024 edition, but the official itinerary is not out yet. Matches will be held at various stadiums in India and Sri Lanka. Depending on how the Pakistani team performs, the final might be held in either Ahmedabad or Colombo.
The tournament will have four groups of five teams, with the top two from each group qualifying for the Super Eight stage. From this stage, semi-finalists will be selected, and on March 8, they will fight for the championship in the grand finale.
Up to now, 15 teams have qualified for the World Cup. Among them are well-established cricketing nations such as India, Australia, England, South Africa, Pakistan, and New Zealand, as well as teams that have recently appeared on the scene like the USA, Canada, the Netherlands, and Italy. The rest of the five places will be open to teams that qualify through regional tournaments set to take place in Africa, Asia, and the East Asia and Pacific regions.
Pakistan will play all its matches in Sri Lanka due to geopolitical sensitivities and logistical planning.
India, the winners of the last tournament, will be aiming to win the title for the second time after their incredible triumph over South Africa in the 2024 final. The 2026 edition will be another memorable event in T20 cricket world history, if that is what one can conclude, with all the preparations happening and the fans’ excitement growing.
