New Delhi: The Union government is pushing for energy-saving and greener kitchens by setting new energy rules for LPG gas stoves. These rules are like the star ratings you see on air conditioners and other appliances. The Ministry of Energy, with Manohar Lal Khattar at the front, revealed these new energy standards for home LPG stoves. They’ll be in place by January 1, 2026.

This move, under the Energy Conservation Act of 2001, wants to boost energy efficiency at home. The aim is that all tested products must reach the minimum efficiency that matches their star labels.

Standards All LPG stoves sold in India, made here or imported, have to meet the thermal efficiency standards in Indian Standard (IS) 4246. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) gave advice on these rules, which also make star labels a must to show how well the stoves use heat.

How the Star Ratings Work

LPG stoves will get star ratings from 1 to 5 based on their heat efficiency:

1-star: 68% to under 70%

2-star: 70% to under 72%

3-star: 72% to under 74%

4-star: 74% to under 76%

5-star: 76% or higher

Each stove will have a sticker showing its star rating, so buyers can easily see how energy-saving different stoves are.

How Long The Labels Last

The star rating labels are good from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2028. After that, the rules and labels will be checked every two years, or sooner if needed.

Who Can Register

According to Tribune India, all LPG stove makers and importers need to sign up on the BEE’s online portal for standards and labelling. Only stoves that use LPG only and have BIS approval can get a star label.

This is a big move for India to get better energy efficiency in home appliances, use less energy, and live in a way that protects the environment.
