New Delhi: The effective military move by India against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is not only important enough to cripple the networks of militants but also managed to receive international praise for its efficiency and determination. Operation Sindoor, undertaken after a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam went down, has emphasised India’s prowess in handling cross-border threats and diplomatically and militarily punishing Pakistan, leaving the country’s military and political establishment reeling.

The operation that started on 7th May focused on terrorist strongholds in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Indian Air Force strikes and land operations destroyed training camps, launch pads, radar stations, and communication systems that belonged to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. Some more than one hundred militants were killed, crippling the very infrastructure that has for long fuelled the violence in the region. The Pahalgam attack of April 22 that killed 26 people, civilians and security men, had triggered India’s quick and unforgiving retaliation.

A U.S. former official and senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, Michael Rubin, commended India’s measures in an interview carried out by ANI. Rubin said, “India has won a decisive victory both militarily and diplomatically.” He said Pakistan’s military was a ” defeated force running with its tail between its legs”. Rubin pointed out that Pakistan is no longer in a position to hide behind denials or propaganda, as India’s attacks revealed the close links between Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the terrorists. “When Pakistani officials attend terrorists’ funerals, then the line between ISI and these outfits is erased, he said.

Rubin has stretched it, saying Pakistan’s military is a “cancer,” a burden on the politics, economy, and society of the country. He asked if such leadership as General Asim Munir could hold on to their power as it is facing an increased heat of scrutiny. The world is watching, and it’s time Pakistan cleans up its system,” he implored, citing global anger following Pakistan’s role as a sponsor of terrorism.

India’s operation has moved the world’s focus on to Pakistani policies, as there is now a lot of doubt about the military leadership’s credibility in Pakistan. As clamours for a ceasefire echo from across the border, there is just one non-verbal message India has for Pakistan – ebenfalls eindehalte! terrorism will face unrelenting consequences. Operation Sindoor is more than just a military victory for the people of Jammu and Kashmir; it is a step towards long-term peace, a peace that the area has long been seeking throughout the years.
