Mumbai: India’s cricket team finished off on a thundering note in the T20 series with England, clobbering the visitors by 150 runs in the fifth and final match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on February 2, 2025. Not only did this victory seal a successful series for India, which had already secured a 3-1 lead, but it also validated the raw talent of young opener Abhishek Sharma.
In order to make their destiny, Sharma stated, shining that it was a mile an hour on the preparation. He underlined the urge by smashing 135 runs in just 54 balls with the help of 13 sixes and seven fours. His innings were aggressive and precise, including a century that he clocked in 37 balls—the second-fastest for India in T20 internationals. This remarkable achievement was accompanied by a solid team performance, leading India to a commanding total of 247 runs.
England’s batting order crumbled spectacularly in reply. While Phil Salt provided an early aggressive push with 55 runs, the rest of the team fractured away to only 97 runs. India’s bowlers made the most of that, but overwhelmingly, Mohammed Shami laid waste to England’s batting with three wickets. Abhishek Sharma also had two wickets to his name, having produced an excellent all-round performance. This becomes India’s sixth series win in the last 9 T20 series they’ve played at home; they’ve not lost since 2019 (up till October 2023). While the victory showcased individual brilliance, it also highlighted the cohesive strength of the team throughout the series.
