Bengaluru: Political tensions in Karnataka are escalating as BJP chief BY Vijayendra made a significant assertion on Sunday, suggesting that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah may resign following the Dussehra festivities. This statement comes amid ongoing charges against Siddaramaiah in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment case, intensifying the state’s political climate.
During a press conference in Mysuru, BY Vijayendra criticized the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government, which came to power in May last year after a successful assembly election. “The situation in the state is such that CM Siddaramaiah is making it clear to the media every day that he will continue as the CM. He is in such a bad condition… Some ministers are also claiming that Siddaramaiah will continue as the Chief Minister, on the other hand, Siddaramaiah sent Satish Jarkiholi to Delhi,” Vijayendra remarked.
He further stated, “As soon as our padayatra ended, the countdown started. I am not making any political statement. At the time of Dussehra, I am saying that the Chief Minister can resign anytime. The BJP had taken out a foot march from Bengaluru to Mysuru demanding the chief minister’s resignation. He says that there is a serious discussion among the Congress high command in Delhi about the resignation of the Chief Minister.”
Vijayendra condemned the current government, labeling it as corrupt and detrimental to the state. “Siddaramaiah is also aware of it. This corrupt Congress government led by Siddaramaiah has indulged in loot and has become a curse for the state. The time has come for him to resign. He will resign after Dussehra. We are hearing this everywhere,” he added. Siddaramaiah is currently under investigation by the Lokayukta and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for alleged irregularities in the allotment of 14 plots by MUDA to his wife, Parvati BM.
In response to the unfolding political drama, Janata Dal (Secular) leader and Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who is part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has called for early mid-term elections. Speaking at a party meeting in Nechannapatna, Kumaraswamy emphasized the need for timely elections, stating, “The last days of the Congress government are drawing near. You don’t have to wait for the next election till 2028. Elections can be held earlier also due to Congress’s own misdeeds.”
Kumaraswamy criticized the Congress leadership’s reluctance to relinquish power, asserting, “Let the next election happen whenever it has to be held. We don’t need to remove this government as an opposition, you are seeing every day how people in the Congress are waiting to become the CM. They are openly making their claims. The pot of their sins is full, because they have done things they should not have done.”
The political landscape in Karnataka remains volatile as opposition parties intensify their pressure on the Siddaramaiah government.
As Durga Puja approaches, the political storm in Karnataka shows no signs of abating. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah remains steadfast in his position, despite mounting pressure from opposition leaders and judicial authorities. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the Chief Minister will indeed resign or retain his position amidst the swirling controversies.
