New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge launched a fierce attack on the central government over the Anti Paper Leak Bill. Speaking during a debate in the Upper House, Kharge termed the proposed legislation incomplete and accused the government of playing politics over the future of millions of students.
The senior Congress leader pointed out that while the real culprits behind the examination paper leaks have consistently managed to escape, hardworking candidates have been left to suffer the consequences. He strongly criticised the new provisions of the bill, stating they merely offer statistical data rather than a solid plan to curb the growing menace. According to him, bringing in these new numbers will not yield any real results on the ground.
Questioning the timing and intent of the legislation, Kharge asked why the government failed to introduce these corrective measures in 2024. He alleged that the ruling party ignored the concerns of the opposition earlier and implemented a hasty law back then purely for political reasons. He stressed that the entire policy framework of the government requires urgent reform as innocent job seekers continue to face immense setbacks due to persistent leaks.
Highlighting the sustained efforts of his party, Kharge noted that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been actively raising the examination fraud issue since 2024. He claimed that the current bill completely lacks concrete mechanisms to prevent future breaches. Instead, he argued, the legislation has been tabled solely to pacify the massive anger of protesting students across the country.
The veteran politician credited the student community for this legislative push. He asserted that the relentless struggle of the youth finally brought results and mounting public pressure forced the government to surrender. Kharge reaffirmed that the opposition stands firmly with the candidates and has consistently amplified their voices for a secure and transparent recruitment system.
