New Delhi: A Turkish cargo ship with 12 crew members on board sank off Turkey’s Black Sea coast during a storm on November 19, reported Reuters.
Authorities have not been able to make contact with the crew, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on Monday.
The captain of the Turkish-flagged ship Kafkametler had last reported on Sunday morning that the vessel was drifting towards a breakwater off Eregli, in northwest Turkey’s Zonguldak province, the provincial governor’s office said.
The ship possibly hit a structure after that.
Powerful storms and inclement weather prevented air and sea vessels from carrying out search operations until Monday.
Rescue teams launched a massive search from the morning, and have so far retrieved just one body.
Eight people died in storms and flooding across Turkey over the weekend.
