New Delhi: The government has asked all states/UTs to vaccinate school teachers on a priority basis ahead of Teacher’s Day on September 5.
Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Wednesday that the Centre would provide two crore doses of vaccines against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) to the states this month.
Taking to Twitter, Mandaviya said the vaccines are in addition to the Centre’s existing scheme of providing monthly doses to the states and Union territories.
The government decided to shut schools across the country in March last year ahead of a nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19, classrooms shifted to virtual space.
With the improvement in the COVID-19 situation, several states have begun reopening schools now and concerns have been expressed over the staff and teachers not being completely vaccinated. Hence the vaccination for teachers is being prioritised.
