New Delhi: The pursuit of a ceasefire has become increasingly urgent as the Ukraine-Russia conflict approaches its third year, with global leaders playing a critical role. With the Ukraine-Russia conflict spanning three years, attempts at a truce have become more intense, and world leaders are increasingly important.
Among other well-known personalities, such as former US President Donald Trump and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has notably made a major contribution to these peace initiatives.
Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, recently thanked these leaders for their participation in peacemaking. Putin said at a joint address with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko that Russia is open to ideas meant to bring about long-term peace and solve the underlying causes of the crisis, provided they result in measures targeted at stopping hostilities.
When asked whether Ukraine was ready for a ceasefire, Putin admitted the impact of outside pressure, especially US-based. He voiced gratitude for the time that other world leaders—including Trump, Modi, and the presidents of Brazil and South Africa—have devoted to tackling this problem.
Putin also mentioned recent negotiations on a ceasefire in Saudi Arabia, implying that American pressure influences Ukraine’s desire for a ceasefire to some degree. This development fits Trump’s earlier campaign pledges to settle the issue.
