Islamabad: Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has officially summoned Noreen Niazi, the sister of incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan, over allegations of spreading “false, offensive, and inflammatory” content against state institutions. The strict notice directs Niazi to appear before the agency at its Islamabad office on Monday, marking a fresh escalation in the ongoing tensions between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership and the country’s military establishment.
The summons follows the rapid circulation of a controversial video interview on social media. In the widely shared clip, Niazi made explosive claims regarding the brief military confrontation between India and Pakistan in May 2025. She openly alleged that the intense cross-border conflict was carefully orchestrated as a “drama” in collaboration with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to her unsubstantiated claims, the entire episode was designed to bolster the public image of the Pakistani armed forces under the leadership of Army Chief General Asim Munir.
Furthermore, Niazi suggested that India deliberately refrained from launching a massive counter-offensive due to a pre-existing understanding. She went on to link the military escalation to intense international pressure on Islamabad to formally recognise Israel and join the US-brokered Abraham Accords, completely dismissing the official narrative of the confrontation.
The cybercrime agency’s notice firmly states that her public remarks were intended to defame state institutions and propagate fake narratives. The official directive clearly warned that failure to comply with the summons would be met with strict legal consequences under Section 174 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The contentious remarks have triggered massive political outrage across the nation. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari fiercely condemned the statements, describing them as highly regrettable and damaging to the national interest. Ruling party leaders have aggressively demanded a public apology, accusing the Khan family of deliberately disrespecting the sacrifices of the armed forces to revive their fading political fortunes.
As the legal net tightens around Imran Khan’s family members, this latest development highlights the deepening political fault lines in Pakistan. With the government taking a hardline stance against anti-establishment narratives, the upcoming inquiry could further intensify the bitter confrontation between the ruling coalition and the embattled PTI leadership.
