New Delhi: In a significant move on Wednesday, the government appointed Rahul Naveen, a seasoned Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, as the full-time Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the central investigative agency focused on economic affairs. Naveen, who has been serving as the Special Director of the ED, will hold this key position for a two-year term.
Rahul Naveen is a 1993 batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) and has an extensive background in financial investigations. He took over as the Special Director of the ED on September 15, 2022, following the completion of the tenure of his predecessor, Sanjay Kumar Mishra. Prior to his current role, Naveen served as the acting chief of the ED in 2023, showcasing his capability and experience in handling the agency’s critical functions.
Throughout his career, Naveen has held several important positions within the ED, earning a reputation for his solid track record and brilliance in managing complex investigations. He has played a pivotal role in probing major economic offenses and money laundering cases. His expertise and leadership have been instrumental in the successful execution of many high-profile investigations.
Naveen’s career in the Enforcement Directorate is marked by significant achievements. Before being appointed as the Special Director, he served as the Charge Director, working closely with then-Director Sanjay Mishra. His contributions in this role further solidified his standing as a key figure within the agency. Naveen also served as the Chief Vigilance Officer of the ED, where his efforts were critical in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the agency.
Hailing from Bihar, Naveen’s career in the IRS began in 1993. His rise through the ranks saw him appointed as the Commissioner of Income Tax in 2017, a position that further honed his skills in financial oversight and enforcement. In November 2019, he was appointed Special Director of the ED, a role he continued until his recent appointment as the full-time Director.
Naveen’s appointment is seen as a strategic move by the government to ensure continuity and stability within the Enforcement Directorate, especially given his deep understanding of the agency’s operations and his proven ability to lead complex investigations.
