New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is facing sharp criticism from the Opposition following his recent address at the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), where he used terms like “dimagi naxal” (intellectual Naxals) and “naraz phupha” (angry uncle) to describe his critics.
Congress leaders have accused the Prime Minister of misusing a prestigious educational platform to launch political attacks instead of addressing critical issues concerning the youth, such as education and employment.
During his speech at SRCC’s centenary celebrations on Sunday, PM Modi reiterated his remarks about “intellectual Naxals.” He stated that when he raised his voice against such individuals, their supporters began coming forward one by one, adding that the public is now seeing their true faces. The Prime Minister also categorised people into two types: those who convert society’s strength into national power, and those who act like an “angry uncle,” opposing every new initiative.
Reacting strongly, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticised the Prime Minister’s approach. Taking to social media platform X, Kharge pointed out that the event should have been an opportunity to discuss the future of the nation’s youth.
“Narendra Modi ji visited SRCC in Delhi University yesterday. This was an opportunity to engage in a dialogue on the country’s youth, education, and their future. But sadly, instead of facing the questions of the youth, the speech once again turned into political propaganda,” Kharge wrote.
He further alleged that the PM frequently resorts to name-calling to deflect accountability. “Modi ji’s Modus Operandi is to give the opposition a new name or adjective every year to suppress questions in a democracy… so that his own failures remain hidden! Like—’Naraz Phupha’, ‘Dimagi Naxal’. Adjectives keep changing, but the anti-people policies of the Modi government do not change,” Kharge added.
Echoing similar sentiments, senior Congress leader Pawan Khera also targeted the Prime Minister, stating that such repeated attacks on the opposition reflect an “inferiority complex.” Khera argued that after serving a long tenure, a Prime Minister should use a platform like SRCC to offer clear thoughts and positive messages to the youth, rather than displaying a lack of a clear vision for their future.
