Lucknow: In a village of Koh within the Farah police station limits of Mathura in Upper Pradesh, a shocking incident came to light. A man named Umesh, hailing from Hasanpur in Haryana, entered his girlfriend’s house clad in a lehenga on a Tuesday afternoon. The woman, Rekha, was alone at home while her husband, Sanju, was in the fields and their children had gone to school. They fought; Umesh poured petrol on Rekha and set her ablaze. In the process, he also sustained burns.
Villagers came running from the vicinity when they heard the commotion. The villagers severely beat Umesh after he attempted to escape and fell from the roof. Soon after, the police arrived and sent both Umesh and Rekha to the hospital for their injuries.
Sources from Rekha’s family said that Umesh was the brother-in-law of Rekha’s sister and had an affair with Rekha for some time. Umesh had eloped with Rekha around five months ago; while he was there a month later in Nainital, police had caught him. Since then, Rekha cut off her relationship with him, which led to Umesh committing this act of violence.
