Paris: India continues to make history at the Paris Paralympics, with the nation’s athletes delivering outstanding performances on the global stage. In a remarkable achievement for the country, the Club Throw F51 event saw a double podium finish, with Dharambir winning gold and Pranav Surma securing silver.
Dharambir’s gold-winning throw of 34.92 metres marked a significant moment for India, as he claimed the nation’s fifth gold medal at the Paralympics. Pranav Surma followed closely behind, achieving a silver medal with his best throw of 34.59 metres. This double victory in the same event further solidified India’s growing presence in the Paralympics.
As of now, India has amassed a total of 24 medals, including five golds, nine silvers, and ten bronzes, equalling the nation’s gold medal tally from the Tokyo Paralympics. This impressive performance has also propelled India to 13th place in the overall medal standings, a significant leap in the rankings.
Wednesday was a particularly fruitful day for India, with the nation’s athletes adding several medals to the tally. Sachin kicked off the day by securing a silver medal, followed by archer Harvinder Singh, who made history by clinching a gold medal. Dharambir Singh continued the winning streak with his gold in the Club Throw, and Pranav Surma wrapped up the day by earning a silver.
The men’s Club Throw event proved to be a thrilling contest. Dharambir started off shakily, with his first four attempts resulting in fouls. However, in his fifth throw, he unleashed all his strength, achieving a distance of 34.92 metres and securing the gold for India. Pranav, on the other hand, made his mark early with a throw of 34.59 metres, which earned him the silver medal. Unfortunately, another Indian athlete, Amit Kumar, finished 10th in the final, unable to make it to the podium.
