‘Spurned’ Lover Murders College Girl In Odisha’s Khurda

Balugan: Police detained a youth on Saturday night for allegedly killing a college student in her house at Ganganagar in Balugan town in Khurda district.

According to reports, the 17-year-old victim was a Plus II student of Balugan College. The youth had allegedly sneaked into the house and attacked the girl while was studying in her room around 8 am. The victim’s mother and aunt were watching TV in another room. The girl’s screams alerted them and they rushed into her room. They found the girl lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit.

Locals took the bleeding girl to the community health centre (CHC) in Balugan. She was later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur when her condition deteriorated. She succumbed to her injury while undergoing treatment.

Following a complaint, Balugan police detained the accused Bibhu Behera from his house at a nearby village for interrogation.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the detained youth loved the girl, but she had spurned his advances.
