Cold Wave In Odisha To Intensify In 24 Hours: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The cold wave blowing in the state is set to intensify in the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.

Meanwhile, Daringibadi in Kandhamal district recorded the state’s lowest night temperature at 8.5°C.

According to the IMD morning bulletin on Friday, apart from Daringibadi, the mercury also dipped to a single digit in Sonepur (9.8), Phulbani (9), Jharsuguda (9.6), Angul (9) and Balasore (9.6).

The duty officer of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, Madan Mohan Das, said the intense cold wave in the state will continue as the north-easterly wind from the Himalayan region has started blowing across the state through the Chhota Nagpur plateau. Under its influence, the night temperature will fall by about 2°C in the next 24 hours. “The cold wave condition will prevail in Odisha as there will be no change in the weather condition till next week,” he added.

He informed that the temperature remained at 15°C and below at 14 places in Odisha —Chandbali (12.3), Cuttack (12), Paradip (15), Bhubaneswar (13.6), Puri (14.4), Keonjhar (10), Sambalpur (10.5), Sundargarh (10.5), Hirakud (11.7), Talcher (13.6), Bhawanipatna (13), Balangir (14), Koraput (12) and Titlagarh (10.1).
