New Delhi: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar visited Delhi on Saturday following his party’s success in the recent Legislative Council elections. While no formal details of his meetings have been disclosed, sources indicate discussions centered on the upcoming cabinet expansion and the Legislative Council elections.
In the elections for 11 Legislative Council seats held on Friday, the Mahayuti alliance achieved a significant victory over the Maha Vikas Aghadi. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won five seats, surprising Sharad Pawar. Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena each secured two seats. Notably, both Shiv Sena and NCP candidates were elected in the first round.
Following the NCP’s success in the Legislative Council elections, political circles buzzed with the news of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. The two leaders reportedly had a closed-door conversation, with sources suggesting that the upcoming assembly elections were also discussed, although details remain undisclosed. After the meeting, Ajit Pawar promptly returned to Mumbai.
Ajit Pawar’s NCP faced a significant setback in the recent Lok Sabha elections, securing only one seat, leading to speculation about internal party dynamics. However, the NCP’s performance in the Legislative Council elections has bolstered Pawar’s standing, as he managed to prevent any splits within his party.
The election results have invigorated the Mahayuti alliance, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi faces internal strife. Reports suggest that seven Congress votes were divided in this election, preventing Sharad Pawar’s NCP from maintaining unanimity.
Ajit Pawar’s successful maneuvering in the Legislative Council elections has not only strengthened his party but also increased his influence within the political landscape of Maharashtra.
