Surat: A suspected burglar’s attempt to rob an empty house in Surat went disastrously wrong, leaving the internet highly amused. The unidentified man became helplessly wedged in the steel window grill of the residence, following which he was caught and severely thrashed by the local residents.
The incident took place at the Rajaram Nagar Society in the Nana Varachha area of Surat. According to reports, the targeted property is a locked bungalow belonging to a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) named Kishorbhai, who currently resides in the United States.
The botched robbery, which reportedly occurred a few days ago, came to light after a video of the trapped burglar surfaced on social media and quickly went viral. In the short clip, the man can be seen dangling awkwardly with the upper half of his body stuck inside the window grill, while his legs hang outside the wall. Desperately trying to support himself, the trapped intruder was entirely at the mercy of the locals who had gathered at the spot.
Instead of immediately calling for help to rescue him, the irate residents took matters into their own hands. The footage shows a group of locals armed with wooden sticks mercilessly beating the helpless man as he struggled to free himself from the tight squeeze.
While the local Kapodra Police initially did not receive any official complaint, they initiated a preliminary investigation after the video gained widespread attention online. Kapodra Police Inspector M. R. Solanki stated that the man attempted to break in by forcing his way through the sturdy steel grill after failing to break the main door’s lock.
The house owner, when contacted by the authorities, confirmed that the property had been locked for a long time and contained no cash or valuables. He ultimately declined to file an official police complaint regarding the break-in attempt.
Meanwhile, the viral video has triggered a wave of humorous reactions across social media platforms. Netizens have flooded the comment sections with witty remarks, finding immense amusement in the thief’s self-inflicted predicament. Reacting to the video, one user commented, “The thief got caught in his own trap,” while another jokingly wrote, “Chor ne machaya shor” (The thief made a noise). Another amused viewer chimed in saying, “Chor ban gaya mor” (The thief became a peacock).
As authorities continue to investigate the identity of the man based on the viral footage, the incident highlights the unpredictable and often humiliating consequences of crime.
