Gandhinagar: A Sessions Court in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district has sentenced three individuals to life imprisonment in connection with a cow slaughter case. While delivering the stringent verdict, the court underscored the cultural and spiritual significance of the bovine, officially referring to the cow as the “Mother of the World”.

The incident dates back to August 22, 2024, when local police authorities, acting on specific intelligence, conducted a targeted raid at a residence in Jamla village, situated in the Kalol taluka. During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered a substantial quantity of meat, sharp weapons utilised for culling the cattle, and multiple vehicles used to facilitate the illegal animal trade.

According to the submissions made by the public prosecutor in court, the illicit operation was heavily coordinated for financial gain. A local resident identified as Lalbhai Senma, along with his son, allegedly purchased weak and non-milking cows and buffaloes from various sources. They subsequently summoned the three accused individuals from Ahmedabad to slaughter the animals strictly for commercial profit.

Initially, the police had registered a case against six individuals. However, one of the accused passed away during the course of the legal proceedings. After thoroughly examining the testimonies of 54 witnesses and evaluating 18 crucial pieces of documentary evidence, the Gandhinagar court convicted three men. The convicts have been officially identified as Wasim Qureshi from Juhapura, Mohammed Rafiq Qureshi from Behrampura, and Ashfaq Behlim from Sarkhej.

Welcoming the court’s decisive ruling, Gujarat Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, took to the social media platform X to express his approval. He stated that the judicial decision delivers a strong and uncompromising message that the law will never spare those involved in cow slaughter within the state. Sanghavi further extended his congratulations to the Gandhinagar Police and the prosecution team for their meticulous investigation and for successfully presenting robust evidence before the judiciary.
