Firozabad: The birthplace of the revered saint Baba Neem Karoli in the Akbarpur-Nagau area is set for a massive transformation. In a significant boost to religious tourism in Uttar Pradesh, the state tourism department is preparing to develop a grand corridor and tourism hub in Firozabad. To facilitate this ambitious project, the district administration is currently in the process of acquiring over five hectares of land surrounding the holy site.
According to District Magistrate Santosh Kumar Sharma, the saint’s birthplace has been officially integrated into the Baba Neem Karoli Tourism Circuit following an amendment to the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Policy-2022. This dedicated circuit will seamlessly connect key religious destinations across the state, linking Lucknow, Farrukhabad, Firozabad, and the Mathura-Vrindavan belt.
The developmental groundwork is already underway in a phased manner to accommodate an anticipated surge in domestic and international devotees. In the first phase, projects worth ₹865.98 lakh are being executed, which include the construction of a dormitory, a restaurant, a digital library, an assembly hall, and fundamental civic infrastructure. Furthermore, a budget of ₹222.47 lakh has been sanctioned for the second phase, covering external electrical systems, mural works, and additional public utilities.
Once the ongoing acquisition of the five-hectare land parcel is finalised, the proposed corridor will feature world-class amenities. The master blueprint includes a grand entrance, a tourist facilitation centre, an ashram, a dedicated meditation and wellness centre, a museum, an open-air theatre, and a large dining hall for prasad distribution.
During a recent site inspection, the District Magistrate directed officials to ensure strict adherence to quality standards. He mandated that all construction activities must be completed within the stipulated deadlines to benefit pilgrims and locals as soon as possible.
In addition to the main corridor, the administration is actively focusing on rural tourism. An investment of ₹55.44 lakh is being utilised to develop welcome gates, proper signage, and seating areas. Officials are optimistic that this multi-crore infrastructure revamp will not only offer a serene, enriching experience for visiting pilgrims but also generate substantial local employment and investment opportunities in the region.
