New Delhi: Stepping into an action mode, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to chair a crucial performance review meeting of ministers on Monday evening, with a primary focus on the social justice and welfare sectors. The high-level meeting will assess the functioning of the ministers and hold discussions regarding accountability.

The meeting holds significance as it will evaluate the overall performance of the various ministries, the ministers, and their departments. According to sources, only a select group of Ministers of State (MoS) and Ministers of State with Independent Charge whose portfolios fall under the social justice and social welfare domains have been called for this review.

Some of the key ministries that will be under scrutiny during tomorrow’s session include the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and the Ministry of Agriculture.

Sources indicate that this is just the first in a series of similar meetings planned for the coming days with other groups of Ministers of State. These performance appraisals are being closely linked to potential future cabinet reshuffles, a practice often seen ahead of such expansions or realignments in the government.

This development follows PM Modi’s recent address at the two-day national summit of the Jal Shakti Ministry. During his concluding remarks at the event in September, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to implement the summit’s suggestions within a set timeframe. He also stressed the importance of continuous monitoring and review of these tasks to enable necessary improvements based on ground realities.

At the summit, PM Modi had also highlighted the challenges posed by the growing urban population and future water demands, urging local bodies to raise awareness. Emphasizing the need for better preparedness in urban areas, he advocated for greater adoption of water-saving technologies. He further suggested organizing specialized exhibitions and workshops to support Indian manufacturers in developing and scaling up effective water management solutions, incorporating global best practices.
