New Delhi: Apple’s highly anticipated first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, officially went on sale on October 23, triggering a wave of excitement among tech enthusiasts globally. Despite its premium price tag, the device has witnessed unprecedented demand, resulting in long queues outside Apple Stores across various countries.
Videos and pictures circulating on social media platforms show hundreds of eager customers waiting outside Apple Stores in locations ranging from Macau to New York’s Fifth Avenue. While many customers arrived without pre-orders hoping to secure the device, Apple had previously clarified that in-store stock would be highly limited during the initial phase.
In India, the purchasing process is strictly streamlined for the launch day. Only customers who successfully pre-ordered the device and secured a same-day pickup slot will be able to purchase the iPhone Duo from physical stores. Walk-in customers without prior bookings are unlikely to get their hands on the device immediately. Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo opened on October 16, and the initial rush was so intense that delivery timelines were pushed back from October to January within minutes.
The iPhone Duo commands a hefty price in the Indian market, starting at ₹2,99,900 for the base 256GB storage variant. The 512GB model is priced at ₹3,24,900, the 1TB version at ₹3,74,900, and the top-tier 2TB model reaches an astronomical ₹4,49,900.
In terms of specifications, Apple’s foray into the foldable segment boasts a 7.6-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED inner display paired with a 5.4-inch cover screen. Both screens feature a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Powering the smartphone is the cutting-edge A20 Pro chipset, built on 2nm technology.
For photography, the device is equipped with a robust camera system featuring a dual 48MP rear setup. Additionally, it houses a 12MP lens on the cover display and a 4MP camera on the inner screen, aiming to deliver the premium imaging experience expected from the brand.
