New Delhi: In a significant move to enhance subscriber privacy, the state telecom operator BSNL has introduced a unique solution to a long standing problem faced by mobile users across the country. For years many women have felt hesitant and unsafe sharing their personal mobile numbers with local retail shopkeepers just to get a simple mobile recharge. This unspoken anxiety regarding potential harassment or breach of privacy has now been addressed through an innovative new service called BSNL Kavach.
The daily scenario at local recharge shops often involves customers verbally sharing their contact details with strangers. While many consider this a routine transaction a large section of society particularly mothers daughters and sisters find it deeply uncomfortable. They fear their personal contact details might fall into the wrong hands. Recognizing this widespread but rarely discussed issue BSNL has launched a virtual number system to shield the actual identities of its users.
Under the newly introduced BSNL Kavach initiative subscribers no longer need to reveal their real phone numbers at retail outlets. Instead the telecom company generates a dummy number known as a Kavach number. Customers simply need to provide this temporary numeric code to the shopkeeper. When the retailer processes a recharge on this dummy number the amount is automatically credited to the actual mobile account of the user. This ensures that the real contact detail remains completely hidden and protected from any third party exposure.
Accessing this privacy feature is highly convenient for subscribers across the network. Users can generate their unique Kavach number by either calling the dedicated telecom helpline at 150 or by sending a text message with the word KAVACH to 51500. The system will promptly send the virtual number directly to the inbox of the user. To guarantee maximum security each generated number is strictly meant for a single use. Customers will need to request a fresh dummy number for any future offline transactions.
This innovative measure by BSNL marks a crucial step in consumer protection and telecom safety. By identifying a very specific grassroots problem and offering an easy technological fix the operator is not only securing transactions but also bringing immense peace of mind to millions of female subscribers across India.
