New Delhi: The ongoing monsoon season continues to wreak havoc across India. Heavy downpours have triggered severe floods, waterlogging and dangerous landslides in multiple states. The India Meteorological Department has issued fresh alerts warning citizens of intense weather conditions that have severely disrupted normal life from the northern hills to the southern coasts.
Rivers are flowing above the danger mark in several regions. States like Assam and Odisha are currently battling severe flood conditions, leaving thousands struggling for basic necessities. In urban areas, sudden downpours have led to immense waterlogging and massive traffic snarls, while mountainous terrains are facing frequent landslides.
For the national capital, the weather department has predicted generally cloudy skies with light rain or drizzle today. This weather pattern in Delhi is expected to continue until August 14. Temperatures will hover around a maximum of 34 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are bracing for intense showers. Eastern Uttar Pradesh is likely to witness heavy rainfall today and tomorrow, while the western parts of the state have been put on alert for August 10. Authorities have also warned of strong winds and lightning strikes in the region. Bihar will experience scattered showers until August 12, followed by widespread heavy rainfall on August 13 and 14.
Southern and eastern states remain highly vulnerable. Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall today. Similarly, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha will witness widespread showers over the next few days.
Central and western India are also not completely out of the woods. Western Madhya Pradesh has a heavy rain alert active until August 12, while eastern parts of the state will see widespread showers until August 11. Parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat and eastern Rajasthan will also continue to receive steady rainfall.
The hilly states remain on high alert. The weather department has forecast continuous rain for Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir until August 14. Taking note of the extreme weather patterns, authorities have issued an orange alert for Himachal Pradesh, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 10 and 11. Citizens have been advised to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during these severe conditions.
