Ahmedabad: Marking the first anniversary of the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash, grieving families of over 260 victims gathered in the city on Friday to demand truth and complete accountability. Despite receiving financial compensation, the kin of the deceased expressed deep dissatisfaction over the prolonged silence surrounding the official investigation report. They united to emphasize that their fight is for transparency rather than mere monetary relief.
The tragic aviation disaster, which ranks among the worst in the history of Indian aviation, took place exactly a year ago on June 12, 2025. The crash claimed the lives of 241 passengers alongside crew members and individuals on the ground, taking the total death toll past 260. Twelve months after the catastrophic event, the official authorities are yet to publicly disclose the exact technical failures or human errors that led to the crash, leaving the families of the victims in a state of perpetual grief and uncertainty.
To mark the somber occasion, family members assembled at a hotel on Ashram Road in Ahmedabad for a prayer meeting dedicated to the departed souls. The gathering also witnessed an important strategy session between the families and senior representatives from the Federation of Indian Pilots. The discussion focused closely on the current status of the technical probe, including initial data retrieved from the Cockpit Voice Recorder and the Flight Data Recorder, commonly known as the black box. The pilot body and families also reviewed international legal frameworks to chart out their future course of action to ensure a fair trial.
Following the meeting, the families announced a peaceful candle march scheduled for late afternoon. The march, which commenced from the Ashram Road hotel and culminated at the exact crash site, served as a collective demonstration against administrative apathy. The organizers stated that the march would be followed by a memorial service at the site to pay floral tributes to the victims. Family members asserted that they deserve to know how their loved ones lost their lives and demanded that the black box findings must be made public immediately.
