Patna: A long familiar political address in Bihar has turned into a fresh flashpoint. Former Chief Minister and RJD leader Rabri Devi has refused to vacate the government bungalow at 10 Circular Road in Patna, even after the state government allotted the premises to minister Nand Kishore Ram.

On Saturday, Secretariat SDPO Anu Kumari reached Rabri Devi’s residence with a police team. According to reports, she held a brief discussion inside the bungalow for around 10 minutes before leaving with the force. No immediate eviction action was taken.

The bungalow has been associated with the Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi family for years and is seen as an important political centre of the RJD. The latest dispute began after the Building Construction Department issued notices asking Rabri Devi to vacate the premises. The government says an alternative residence at 39 Hardinge Road has already been allotted to her as Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council.

However, Rabri Devi has made it clear that she is not willing to move out. Speaking to reporters, she challenged Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary to remove her by force. She said he appeared excited after becoming Chief Minister and added that she would not vacate the bungalow.

The state administration has so far avoided a confrontation and has chosen the route of talks. Officials, however, maintain that the matter will be handled according to rules.

The row has quickly acquired political colour. For the government, it is being presented as a routine allotment issue. For the RJD, it is likely to be seen as pressure on the opposition’s most recognisable family.

With police already visiting the premises and Rabri Devi standing firm, the 10 Circular Road bungalow dispute may remain a major political talking point in Bihar over the next few days.
