New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has launched a sharp attack on the Modi government over the CBSE Class 12 result controversy, alleging serious irregularities in the digital evaluation process and demanding an independent judicial inquiry.

In a post on X, Gandhi claimed that the future of 18.5 lakh students had been handed over to an outside agency with a controversial past. He questioned why COEMPT, the company involved in the CBSE On Screen Marking evaluation system, was given such a sensitive contract despite what he described as its earlier record under the name Globarena.

Gandhi alleged that Globarena had been linked to a major controversy during the Telangana board examination process in 2019. Targeting the government, he said the name had changed but the nature of the company had remained the same. He further asked who approved the contract, what rules were bypassed, whether proper background checks were conducted and whether there were links between the company management and people in powerful positions.

The Congress leader described the issue as more than an administrative lapse and called it a deliberate conspiracy against students. He said students and parents across the country had been left shocked by complaints related to wrong marking, On Screen Marking errors and result discrepancies. Gandhi also demanded the immediate formation of a Special Investigation Team along with a judicial probe.

However, CBSE rejected Gandhi’s allegations, calling them “erroneous, misleading and not based on facts”. The board said it had followed all General Financial Rules while awarding the digital evaluation contract to Coempt Edutech. It also said the Request for Proposal for digital evaluation was floated on the Central Public Procurement portal on August 28, 2025, and the contract was awarded after the required process was followed.

The controversy has now moved beyond education administration and become a political issue. While the Congress is demanding accountability and an inquiry, CBSE has maintained that the contract process was transparent and legally compliant.

For lakhs of students and parents, the immediate concern remains clarity over evaluation complaints, rechecking and result related grievances. The larger question is whether the government and CBSE can restore public confidence in one of India’s most important school examination systems.
