New Delhi: The political corridors of the national capital are buzzing with activity as the Congress high command has convened a crucial meeting to address the ongoing internal dynamics of its Karnataka unit. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar have arrived in New Delhi following an urgent summons from the party leadership, sparking intense speculation about a potential leadership transition or a major administrative overhaul in the southern state.

The high-stakes deliberations, scheduled to take place at the official residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, will see the participation of senior leader Rahul Gandhi and General Secretary K.C. Venugopal. While Chief Minister Siddaramaiah maintained a guarded stance upon his arrival, stating that he was invited by the high command but remained unaware of the explicit agenda, party insiders suggest that a comprehensive review of the state’s governance is on the cards.

The state government recently marked a significant milestone, prompting the central leadership to evaluate its long-term strategy ahead of the next electoral cycle. A major point of discussion centers around a rumored power-sharing agreement from 2023, with loyalists of D.K. Shivakumar actively advocating for a transition at the helm. Shivakumar, who also reached New Delhi to join the deliberations, remarked that one must travel when specific situations demand it, while maintaining that he would abide by the high command’s final decision.

Beyond the chief ministerial post, the leadership is expected to finalize candidate selections for the upcoming Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections, alongside a potential cabinet reshuffle. State Congress in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala sought to downplay the leadership buzz, asserting that the meetings are part of routine consultations regarding the notified Rajya Sabha polls and urged observers to avoid unverified speculation.

The outcome of these discussions is expected to emerge within the next two to three days. Whether the party opts for a complete regime change, a negotiated cabinet restructuring to balance factional interests, or a status quo with an emphasis on social representation remains to be seen. The final decision will hold significant implications for the political stability and governance delivery of the state administration.
