Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MP Dr Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has resigned as the AITC district president of the Barasat parliamentary district, marking a significant organisational development in West Bengal politics after the recent election results.
According to the report, Dr Ghosh Dastidar stepped down from the district president’s post while making it clear that she would continue to remain with the party and serve the people. Her decision has triggered political discussion within the state, especially as it comes at a time when the Trinamool Congress is assessing its performance after the elections.
In her statement, the TMC MP said the decision was taken in the interest of the party and the organisation. She admitted that after looking at the recent election results, she felt there may have been some shortcomings in the way the party’s work was carried out in the district.
Dr Ghosh Dastidar said election results always provide an opportunity for political leaders to reflect on what needs to be improved. She also indicated that if another leader is given the responsibility, the organisation may possibly move forward in a better way. Her remarks suggest that the resignation is not an act of rebellion, but an attempt to allow fresh leadership at the district level.
The Barasat MP also thanked party workers and leaders for their support and cooperation. She expressed hope that the new leadership would further strengthen the organisation in the area.
Dr Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has been associated with the Trinamool Congress for a long time and is considered a well recognised political face in the Barasat region. Apart from her role as an MP, she has also remained active in organisational responsibilities. This makes her resignation an important move within the party structure.
However, she has clearly stated that she is not distancing herself from the Trinamool Congress. She will continue to remain with the party and work for the people as a Member of Parliament. This clarification is important, as it separates her organisational resignation from any political break with the party.
The resignation may now open the way for internal restructuring in the Barasat unit. For the TMC, the immediate challenge will be to ensure that the leadership transition does not affect ground level coordination at a politically sensitive time.
