Kolkata: From designing outfits for Bollywood celebrities to emerging as one of the most powerful women leaders in West Bengal politics, BJP leader Agnimitra Paul’s journey has taken a dramatic turn. The Asansol Dakshin MLA is now set to become one of West Bengal’s Deputy Chief Ministers after the BJP’s historic victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.
According to her 2026 election affidavit, Agnimitra Paul’s total net worth is estimated at around ₹3.9 crore. This includes movable assets worth nearly ₹2.6 crore and immovable properties valued at approximately ₹1.3 crore. The affidavit also mentions liabilities of around ₹1.2 crore.
Before entering politics, Agnimitra Paul had built a successful career as a fashion designer in Kolkata. She ran her own fashion label “INGA” and designed costumes for several Bollywood personalities, including Sridevi and Mithun Chakraborty. Reports also state that she worked with celebrities like Kajol and Esha Deol during her fashion career.
Born in Asansol in 1974, Agnimitra comes from a family of doctors and academics. She studied science before completing a diploma in fashion designing and later becoming one of Kolkata’s recognised fashion entrepreneurs.
Her political journey began in 2019 when she joined the BJP. Within a short period, she rose rapidly through the party ranks, becoming president of the BJP Mahila Morcha in West Bengal and later the party’s state vice-president. Known for her aggressive speeches against the Trinamool Congress, she emerged as one of BJP’s most visible women leaders in Bengal politics.
In the 2026 Assembly elections, Agnimitra Paul retained the Asansol Dakshin seat with a huge margin, defeating TMC candidate Tapas Banerjee by over 40,000 votes.
Political observers believe BJP’s decision to elevate Agnimitra reflects the party’s strategy to strengthen its women-centric image in Bengal after ending the 15-year rule of Mamata Banerjee.
