New Delhi: With an aim to uplift the socio-economic condition of the farmers, the central government continues to roll out a robust array of schemes aimed at boosting income, reducing risks, and promoting sustainable agriculture.
These initiatives, which range from direct cash transfers to crop insurance and affordable credit, aim to protect farmers from uncertainties and boost productivity.
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) provides annual financial support of ₹6,000 (in three ₹2,000 installments) to eligible small and marginal farmers, transferred directly to their bank accounts via DBT.
Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) offers crop insurance against natural calamities, pests, and diseases, with farmers paying low premiums (2% for Kharif, 1.5% for Rabi) and the government subsidising the rest.
The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme enables timely loans up to ₹3 lakh at 7% interest (effective 4% with prompt repayment incentives), helping farmers avoid exploitative moneylenders.
Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana focuses on irrigation infrastructure to reduce rain dependency and ensure water availability.
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maan-Dhan Yojana is a pension scheme where farmers contribute, matched by the government, yielding ₹3,000 monthly post-60 years.
Other key programs include soil health cards for better nutritional management and solar energy subsidies under PM-KUSUM for pump irrigation.
These schemes collectively aim to double farmers’ incomes and promote self-reliance in agriculture, with ongoing updates ensuring wider reach.
