Patna: In a stunning post-poll rebellion, senior Congress leaders in Bihar have openly called for snapping ties with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led INDIA alliance, holding the “forced marriage” responsible for the party’s near wipeout in the 2025 assembly elections.
Sources said the state unit has prepared a scathing report for the Congress high command, claiming the alliance reduced the party to a humiliating 6–8 seats— its worst-ever performance — while RJD walked away with the lion’s share of seats and sympathy votes. “We were treated like a junior partner, denied winnable seats, and made to fight on RJD’s terms. This alliance has destroyed Congress in Bihar,” a senior state leader told ABP Live on condition of anonymity.
The demand gained momentum after a closed-door meeting of district presidents and former MLAs in Patna on Tuesday, where voices rose for “immediate separation” and contesting the 2029 Lok Sabha and 2030 assembly polls independently. Some leaders even accused the Gandhis of sacrificing the Bihar Congress to maintain Tejashwi Yadav’s good mood.
State Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh remained tight-lipped, but party insiders confirm the report will reach AICC general secretary K C Venugopal within days.
Meanwhile, RJD dismissed the outburst as “sour grapes”, with a senior leader quipping, “They can leave anytime; we never needed their baggage.”
As the grand old party stares at an existential crisis in yet another Hindi heartland state, one question echoes in Bihar’s political corridors: Is the present the beginning of the end for the INDIA bloc even before 2029?
